You are so fortunate to have found a turtle. Although it may seem like they are common in your area, populations of box turtles are in decline nation wide. It is also good that you did not try to bring this wild animal home. Turtles have site fidelity, so take them in the direction they were heading across the road, but no more than 50 yards.

He's safe & sound back in the creek area. It seems he may have been crossing the drive to get to the other side of the creek. We're so happy to have them in the yard & agree...that's where these turtles belong. They wouldn't be happy in the house I'm sure!
